Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Maryland

Fort Washington, MD – Foday Salim killed in Pedestrian Crash on Bock RdFatal pedestrian accidents take the lives of thousands of people across the United States every year. Here in Maryland, these accidents account for hundreds of deaths on our roadways. Far too often, pedestrians lose their lives as a result of drivers who are distracted. When a driver is not paying attention to the road ahead, they are likely to not see pedestrians traveling nearby.

There are also many accidents that take place as a result of drivers who fail to yield. Even though pedestrians have the right-of-way to cross the road in crosswalks and various other areas, we continue to see them harmed as a result of drivers who fail to let them go.

Another common cause of vehicle accidents in our state is impairment. When drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they are likely to experience impairment in their ability to make responsible decisions. As a result, many of them continue forward despite the fact that they are supposed to stop when pedestrians are crossing the road at crosswalks.
