Car Accidents in Maryland

Salisbury, MD – One Hurt in Crash on Priscilla St near Harrington StBeing hurt in a car crash can change every part of your life. Unfortunately, there are thousands of cases where people are left with serious injuries that affect their ability to work, prevent them from engaging in activities with family, and take an overwhelming toll on their mental and emotional health.

Far too often, victims of car crashes in Missouri are injured due to the negligent actions of other drivers. When drivers fail to control their vehicles responsibly, it can have devastating consequences. After being hurt in a car crash, victims have the ability to file a personal injury claim against the responsible party.

In Maryland, awards for damages are based on the contributory negligence doctrine. The doctrine of contributory negligence can result in an injured party being completely denied any damages for their injury, even if they shared a minimal amount of fault. For example, if a jury determines that the victim was just 1% responsible for the injury, they would still be unable to recover any damages from the party primarily at fault, even if that party was 99% responsible. Contributory negligence is often regarded as unfair to injured victims and significantly complicates the pursuit of a personal injury case.
