Fatal Car Accidents in Maryland
Recent crash data from Maryland reveals a devastating reality. An average of more than 500 individuals lose their lives each year as a result of collisions in the state. This number accounts for approximately 0.4% of all traffic-related incidents that occur annually.
The reasons behind these fatal accidents are diverse. However, negligent motorists play a significant role in many of these tragic occurrences. Several contributing factors have been shown to be the most common in fatal crashes throughout the state. These include:
Impairment: The majority of auto wrecks involve drivers under the influence of alcohol. Despite strict laws to prevent impaired drivers from endangering others, these individuals continue to cause severe and often fatal injuries to innocent road users.
Distractions: The proliferation of technology in recent years has led to a significant increase in collisions caused by drivers using cell phones while operating their vehicles. Such distractions make it nearly impossible for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles, resulting in devastating crashes.
Speeding: Exceeding posted speed limits remains a prevalent factor in a significant number of crashes in Maryland. Engaging in excessive speeds, particularly during adverse weather conditions, can lead to life-altering and fatal consequences for other road users.
