Mechanicsville, MD (June 17, 2023) – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 19-year-old Michael Robert Benenati was fatally injured as a result of a motorcycle accident that took place on Friday morning, June 16.

It was approximately 9:45 a.m. when the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s office was notified that they were needed at the scene of a crash on Bud’s Creek Road.

Preliminary investigations provided by the Sheriff’s office indicate that a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on Bud’s Creek Road when it collided with a 2017 Chevrolet truck that was pulling a trailer along the roadway. The accident caused the motorcyclist, identified as Benenati, and his passenger, 18-year-old Ashlyn Nicole Summers, to be ejected from the vehicle.

Benenati was rushed to MedSTAR St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Summers was airlifted and flown to an area trauma center for emergency care.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.

We hope Ashlyn Nicole Summers is able to recover quickly.

We offer our condolences to the family of Michael Robert Benenati at this time.
