Montgomery County, MD (August 3, 2023) – One person has died as a result of a major accident that occurred late Tuesday evening in Montgomery County.
On August 1, the Maryland State Police was notified that a major crash took place on Interstate 270.
According to law enforcement reports, a white Mercedes SUV was traveling south on the northbound side of the interstate when it crashed into a Nissan Pathfinder and a Lexus near the outer loop of Interstate 495.
The incident blocked several lanes of the interstate, prompting multiple law enforcement agencies to respond and shut down the road.
Five people in the Lexus were injured due to the impact. The victims were all rushed to area hospitals for emergency care. Three children and two adults in the Nissan also suffered injuries. All five victims were transported to area hospitals for emergency treatment. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Nissan, identified only as a female, was pronounced deceased after arriving.
The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 23-year-old Jayleen Hannor, fled the scene after the crash. They were later apprehended and taken into police custody.
The incident is being investigated at this time.

Maryland Car Accidents
Experiencing a motor vehicle accident can have a profound and life-altering impact. Regrettably, our state witnesses over 100,000 individuals each year who endure injuries as a result of these crashes. Quite often, victims require immediate medical attention and are swiftly transported to local hospitals for treatment. Depending on the nature and severity of their injuries, recovery may span weeks or even months, involving extensive therapy and rehabilitation.
Among the most common injuries reported in car accidents across Maryland are severe spinal cord injuries leading to paralysis, traumatic brain injuries resulting in balance loss and mood instability, fractures necessitating surgical intervention and long-term care, and life-threatening internal organ damage. When individuals sustain severe injuries in accidents, they often face long-term medical treatment with no guarantee of a full recovery. Regrettably, many find themselves permanently disabled as a result of these car wrecks.
