Fatal Auto Accidents in Maryland

Upper Marlboro, MD – Gregory McCullom Fatally Injured in Bicycle Wreck on Williams Beanes Rd near Federal CourtMaryland witnesses an alarming number of auto wrecks each year, reaching tens of thousands. Shockingly, more than 90% of these crashes stem from drivers engaging in reckless, negligent, or even malicious behavior while operating their vehicles.

Among the leading causes of life-changing wrecks in Maryland are the following actions:

  • Aggressive Driving: Speeding remains a prevalent issue, significantly compromising drivers' control over their vehicles. Reckless acts like changing lanes without proper observation, tailgating, and other aggressive behaviors continue to jeopardize the safety of individuals on a daily basis in our state.
  • Impairment: Drivers with a blood-alcohol content level above the legal limit of 0.08% struggle to maintain control of their vehicles. Even the slightest amount of alcohol impairs vision, judgment, and reaction time, posing a significant threat on the road.
  • Distractions: Despite awareness campaigns, people persist in using their phones while driving, whether it's texting or talking. These distractions take the driver’s attention away from the road, making it impossible to fully focus on driving. Consequently, collisions with other vehicles, objects, and pedestrians occur all too frequently.

Regrettably, these actions cause crashes that take the lives of hundreds of people in our state each year.
