Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Maryland
Pedestrian accidents take the lives of countless people in Maryland every year. Unfortunately, there are many cases where innocent people die due to these fatal accidents. Common causes of fatal pedestrian crashes across Maryland include:
- Excessive speeding: When drivers exceed speed limits, they increase the likelihood of losing control of their vehicles and colliding with pedestrians nearby.
- Disobeying traffic signals: When drivers disregard red lights at intersections, they endanger the lives of innocent pedestrians, putting them at risk of fatal accidents.
- Failure to yield: When drivers fail to give the right of way to others traveling nearby, it can cause serious and fatal accidents that ultimately take the lives of innocent people.
If your loved one has died due to a fatal collision, your family may be able to take legal action against the responsible party. It is imperative to prove the elements of negligence existed at the time of the accident. This includes showing that the defendant owed your loved one a duty of care, they breached it, the breach caused the fatal crash, and the loss of your loved one caused you damages.
It is important to understand that in Maryland if a victim contributed to the accident taking place in any way, surviving family members are barred from making a financial recovery. This highlights the importance of seeking help from a Waldorf wrongful death lawyer immediately. An attorney will be able to prove your case against the defendant and help your family maximize the compensation you recover.
