Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Maryland

Bel Air, MD – Motorcyclist Jeremy Burris Loses Life in Crash on Route 22 at Schucks RdThousands of motorcycle accidents occur in the state of Maryland every year. These accidents leave more than 1400 people injured while taking the lives of nearly 75 individuals. Unfortunately, a significant number of these accidents are a result of negligence. Common causes of fatal motorcycle accidents in Maryland include:

  • Failure to Yield: One common form of car driver negligence is the failure to yield the right-of-way to motorcyclists. This can happen at intersections, while changing lanes, or during turns, leading to severe collisions.
  • Distracted Driving: Drivers who engage in distractions such as texting, talking on the phone, or adjusting their radios are more likely to not see motorcyclists traveling nearby.
  • Failure to Check Mirrors: Negligent drivers may neglect to check their mirrors or neglect to use them effectively. Given the fact that motorcycles are already more difficult to see, not checking your mirrors can have devastating consequences.
  • Reckless Driving: Excessive speeding, aggressive driving, and disregarding traffic laws are forms of reckless driving that can lead to catastrophic accidents.

The unfortunate truth is that motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to the actions of reckless car drivers. They lack adequate protection during accidents, which leaves them more likely to suffer catastrophic and fatal injuries.
