Silver Spring, MD (May 23, 2023) – Injuries were reported as a result of a car crash in the Silver Spring area on Monday morning, May 22.

At around 4:30 a.m., emergency officials were called to the scene of a collision on the inner loop of Interstate 495 Beltway.

Reports from authorities indicate that a police officer was on traffic detail while assisting at a construction site located on the interstate near University Boulevard during the early morning hours. For unknown reasons, a white Mercedes SUV crashed into the rear end of the patrol vehicle.

The trooper became trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated.

The officer was injured as a result of the accident. They were transported to Shock Trauma for emergency medical care.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 31-year-old Anthony Bowser, was determined to be under the influence. Bowser was transported to Suburban Hospital for medical care. Charges against him are currently pending.

At this time, investigations are underway.
