$6,116,000 jury verdict for the surviving wife and father of a 28 year old man who died as a result of a pulmonary embolism. The jury held an emergency room physician and internist responsible for failing to diagnose and give life-saving medication to a man who initially presented to the emergency room with numerous signs and symptoms consistent with a pulmonary embolism. The emergency room physician listed pulmonary embolism in his differential diagnosis but did not obtain any objective testing to rule out the disease. The physicians and their insurance company denied liability and refused to make a settlement offer before trial.
